I am not a taxi addict, even in Hong Kong and other countries.
I don’t bring something too heavy, or there is no transportation. I can’t find the reason convincing me to take a taxi.
For me, taking taxi is such a waste, emmm well, sometimes. 😛
In Bangkok, the expenses were toooo low, comparing to other countries, of course including Hong Kong. When we were planning to go Hua Hin, which we have to take around 3 hours van plus transferring train to van, we consider the time wasted problem. With the low cost of taking taxi, we eventually chose to take 3 hours taxi with comfortable seats. From Don Mueang Airport to Hua Hin, the taxi driver didn’t talk with us, but what he did is really really.. impressed me. 🙂

Before telling the good story, I would like to share another story about taxi in Bangkok:
When we were ready to take a flight back to Hong Kong, bell boy helped us to call a taxi, and consent that the cost will be 500Baht (including toll fee and luggages) However, when we left the hotel and taxi driver stated that he would like to have 600 Baht in total. See, people are that. When they know you are tourists, they will try to take more advantages from you. We were kind of mad , just ignored what he said and gave 500Baht at the end, as we compromise with the bell boy. He was just fine as he did many times(I think). My colleague had similar experience when she was in Bangkok. Although it is only HKD$25 difference, I hate being treated like that!!
My conclusion is… too many people in the world, and you will never know if a good guy or bad ass you will meet in the next second.

沒跟我們說話的原因很簡單,司機不懂說英文,在曼谷廊曼機場的Meeting Point(簡單來說這是一個的士站,為了解決溝通問題,Meeting Point櫃位的人略懂英文,會先向旅客了解目的地,再跟司機談好價錢,雙方同意後由司機帶旅客上車,完完全全化解溝通上的問題。)

Go back to our topic with the nice driver. We didn’t talk to him.
Why? The reason is simple. He (the driver) didn’t speak English. At Bangkok Don Mueang Airport, the taxi station is called Meeting Point. To be simple, it helps Thai drivers who can’t speak English. People who work in Meeting Point speak good English and help to communicate with tourists and negotiate the cost with driver. Once received two parties’ consent, they made a deal.
This Meeting Point can completely solve the communication problem between tourists and taxi drivers.

We felt a bit tired because of the flight. Therefore, we decided to take a nap by turns. (You know, alertness is needed!) I kept sneezing because the weather difference between indoor and outdoor. When the driver noticed this from the rearview mirror, he kept adjusting the AC with his left hand and wished me to feel better. The driver saw my friend was taking nap, again, he adjusted the AC quietly to make the AC not blowing to my friend’s face directly. Although I was listening music, I looked in the eyes.

(That’s what my friend told me after we took off)
Most Thai people are Buddhists. They hang up a lot amulets and beads on the rearview mirror of the taxi. You know.. the taxi turned around and the impact sound produced when the amulets and beads hit to each other. Although it didn’t make a loud sound waking me up, the driver kept holding the amulets and beads with his hand while turning left and right. I have to emphasize.. he did it every time!! I was really impressed with his attention. He is a very nice driver!!! Suddenly, a thought came to my mind, “Does he ever expect he will go to Hua Hin by driving 3 hours? If he lives in Bangkok? So, does he has to drive 3 hours and go all the way to Bangkok?” With his attentive behavior to us, I did care about his tiredness.

I am lucky to meet a good person there when starting our Thailand’s journey. 🙂
He does’t speak English, but I’d say “Kob khun krap” (Means “thank you” in Thai) with my wholehearted warmth.
